New Korangi causeway bridge opens to public, alleviating rainy day challenges

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Korangi Causeway Bridge on Monday, the event was attended by Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Labor Minister Saeed Ghani, the Mayor of Karachi, and other senior officials, along with numerous members of the business community.

The new bridge, measuring 1.4 kilometers in length, was built at an approved cost of Rs. 6,135.146 million.

During the ceremony, Shah remarked that the new infrastructure addresses the persistent issue of traffic disruptions caused by the rainy season.

He emphasized that residents of Korangi and Landhi will now have continuous access to other parts of the city via the bridge, even in heavy rainfall.

Previously, the flooding of the Korangi Causeway road had effectively segregated the city into two sections, resulting in complete road closures and significant traffic delays.

The bridge is expected to promote smoother transit and offer a dependable route during the Malir River’s flooding periods.

A spokesperson for the Chief Minister noted that the construction of the 26-meter-wide bridge began in July 2023 and was completed in January of this year, describing it as a modern structure on the Malir River.
