MITHI: Six additional children receiving treatment at Civil Hospital Mithi have died over the last five days, pushing the number of child fatalities in Tharparkar to 50 within a month, according to hospital officials.
Medical sources revealed that the children were battling multiple health complications and had severely weakened immune systems, making recovery difficult despite ongoing treatment. Malnutrition has been identified as a key factor contributing to the growing number of deaths across the district.
The Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Mithi stated that many of the fatalities were linked to home births and low birth weight. He explained that underweight newborns are far more susceptible to infections and illnesses, increasing their risk of death.
Health authorities have raised serious concerns over the worsening situation in Tharparkar, where persistent poverty, food shortages, and inadequate healthcare services continue to endanger the lives of children.
