QUETTA: Train services throughout Balochistan have been temporarily suspended amid escalating security concerns, railway officials confirmed on Saturday.
Authorities cited the worsening law and order situation as the reason behind the decision. Several major passenger and cargo trains scheduled to depart from Quetta were cancelled, including the Jaffar Express, Bolan Mail, and the Chaman Passenger service.
Railway officials also announced the suspension of the freight train running between Quetta and Zahedan in Iran. In addition, a passenger train en route from Peshawar to Quetta was stopped at Jacobabad as a precautionary step.
According to railway authorities, the move was taken due to unavoidable circumstances linked to the prevailing security conditions in the province.
Meanwhile, security forces successfully repelled a wave of coordinated attacks across Balochistan, reportedly carried out by Fitna Al Hindustan (FAH). Security sources said the assaults targeted 12 locations on Friday night and early Saturday, but timely action by law enforcement agencies prevented any major damage.
In the ensuing counter-operations, at least 58 militants were killed. However, the clashes resulted in the martyrdom of 10 security personnel and five civilians, the sources added.
Officials said operations are ongoing to ensure stability and restore normalcy across the province.
