ISLAMABAD: In a notable development, prospects of renewed communication between the government and opposition have improved, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif anticipated to hold a meeting with Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai during the upcoming session of the National Assembly.
Sources told that the initiative was facilitated by Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s adviser on political affairs, who played a key role in reviving the dialogue process.
It is expected that the Prime Minister will visit Achakzai’s chamber in the National Assembly along with his delegation. Preliminary contacts were established earlier this week at Parliament House to coordinate the meeting, but the process was temporarily delayed.
The postponement was attributed to the official visit of Kazakhstan’s President to Pakistan and the Prime Minister’s other commitments. Sources indicated that the Prime Minister preferred to brief President Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi before proceeding with the meeting with Achakzai.
It is now believed that the Prime Minister will engage with opposition leaders during the next session of the National Assembly. Confirming the development, Rana Sanaullah stated that when the Prime Minister attends parliament, he will meet with opposition figures.
This anticipated dialogue is seen as a significant step towards easing political tensions and fostering constructive communication between the government and opposition parties.
