ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar on Saturday reaffirmed that Pakistan’s stance against terrorism was firm and uncompromising, stating that there was absolutely no tolerance for extremist violence in the country.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lahore, Tarar said the state had delivered a clear message of peace, unity, and national harmony. He stressed that sectarianism and hatred would not be allowed to take root and reiterated that Pakistan would neither allow its territory to be used for acts of terrorism nor tolerate the use of Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan. According to the minister, investigations had confirmed that the terrorist involved had travelled to Afghanistan for training.
Tarar revealed that facilitators and handlers linked to the attack had already been identified and assured the public that further details would be shared soon. He said terrorists no longer possessed the ability to target sensitive or high-value installations, adding that security agencies were actively pursuing all those involved, regardless of circumstances.
Highlighting efforts to counter extremist narratives, the minister said the Peace Message Committee had been established to challenge terrorist ideology and promote national unity. He noted that the committee included members from minority communities, including Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs, reflecting a collective stand against extremism.
Providing an update on the victims, Tarar said approximately 170 people injured in the blast were receiving proper medical care, and the government stood firmly with the affected families. He added that the nation was grieving together and that this shared sorrow had further strengthened the resolve to eliminate terrorism completely.
Religious scholar Dr Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar also addressed the press conference, expressing gratitude to the information minister for his solidarity during the difficult time. He said the Islamabad tragedy had saddened every Pakistani and urged citizens to remain alert. Paying tribute to the martyrs, he said the sacrifices of Pakistan Army soldiers would not go in vain and emphasized that national unity remained the country’s greatest strength in confronting such challenges.
