D.G.KHAN: In Dera Ghazi Khan, a ceremony to distribute laptops to students, organised by the university administration, was marred by protests as students accused officials of favouritism.
The event took place at the Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council, where Federal Minister for Energy Owais Laghari spoke to the attendees. He clarified that the laptops being distributed under the Prime Minister’s scheme are allocated based on merit and are free from political influence.
Laghari added that supporting youth initiatives does not imply abandoning loyalty to PTI’s founder but acknowledges that young individuals are the future leaders of the nation.
During the proceedings, students protesting the selection process blocked the main entrance of the Arts Council. Due to the disruption, Laghari had to leave the venue via an alternate route.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor commented that the students protesting did not meet the merit criteria required for receiving the laptops, which is why they were denied the devices.
