Pak vs NZ: weather outlook ahead of T20 World Cup Super 8 showdown

COLOMBO: Cricket fans are gearing up for an electrifying T20 World Cup Super Eight contest between Pakistan and New Zealand, scheduled for 6:30pm at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

While anticipation is high for the clash, attention has also turned to the weather forecast. According to officials from the local Meteorological Department, light showers are expected in Colombo after 1pm. However, authorities believe the rain is unlikely to significantly interfere with the evening fixture.

Weather service AccuWeather has similarly predicted afternoon rain, with the possibility of one or two thunderstorms later in the day. The likelihood of rainfall is projected to reach its highest point around 68% near 3pm, before gradually easing to roughly 20% by the time the match begins.

Although interruptions during play appear improbable, residual moisture on the outfield and humid conditions could challenge both teams.

On the team front, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has forecast a return for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s playing XI for the crucial encounter. He suggested that Khawaja Nafay may make way, citing Fakhar’s experience and solid performances against New Zealand as key factors.

Speaking on a sports programme, Basit emphasized that Fakhar’s track record against the Black Caps makes him a strong candidate for the high-stakes fixture.

Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik also praised Fakhar’s consistency against New Zealand, while former wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal supported the move, stressing the importance of fielding the strongest possible lineup as Pakistan begin their Super Eight campaign.

With weather concerns easing and team combinations under discussion, fans can expect an intense battle under the Colombo lights.
