Imran Khan, Bushra bibi granted bail in toshakhana fake receipt case; PTI leader also gets bail in five other cases

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court has approved bail for PTI leader Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipt case. The court also granted bail to Imran Khan in five additional cases, including charges related to attempted murder and defamation of the military.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Imran and Bushra Bibi are accused of deception for allegedly submitting a forged receipt indicating the sale of gifts such as watches and cufflinks that were purportedly received from Toshakhana, using forged signatures.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka noted that the prosecution had failed to produce sufficient evidence against both Imran and Bushra Bibi. The court approved their bail petitions with surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.The court also approved bail for Imran Khan in five other cases, each with a surety of Rs 50,000. 

In the case related to defamation of the army, the judge ruled that no concrete evidence had been presented to establish that Imran Khan committed the alleged offense. 

The FIR details that Manzoor Ahmad, a magistrate, was watching television when Imran Khan made allegations against army officers, accusing them of wanting to see him defeated and killed. The FIR further claims that Imran used derogatory language against high-ranking military officials, which could incite unrest and create societal discord.

Regarding the attempted murder case linked to protests, the court observed that the prosecution could not prove that the protests had been organized under Imran Khan’s direction, nor could it establish his presence at the protest sites.

Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, faces multiple legal cases ranging from corruption to terrorism, following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.
