NEPRA raises power tariff by Rs1.63 per unit across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday increased electricity prices by Rs1.63 per unit across the country, including Karachi, under the monthly fuel adjustment for January 2026.

According to a notification issued by Nepra, the hike has been approved as part of the January monthly adjustment and will be recovered from consumers in their March electricity bills. The increase has been implemented in line with the government’s policy guidelines and will apply to most electricity consumers nationwide.

However, the notification clarified that the additional charges will not be applicable to lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations.

Nepra had earlier reserved its decision after conducting a public hearing on the January monthly adjustment. Following the review process, the regulatory authority issued the formal notification confirming the increase.

The latest hike adds to the financial burden on electricity consumers already grappling with rising utility costs.
