ISLAMABAD: The Imran Khan medical transfer petition was addressed Thursday by a two‑judge bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), headed by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.
In its verdict on the plea to move him for specialised treatment, the court mandated the constitution of a medical board to assess his health condition and advise on a possible transfer to a different facility.
The court instructed the Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to set up the board and specifically include Dr. Muhammad Arif of the ophthalmology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, a retina specialist associated with Shifa Eye Hospital. Both doctors have been involved in previous reviews of his eye condition.
The bench’s order built on earlier judicial concern about Khan’s vision problems and the adequacy of his ongoing treatment, including questions over medical reports and consultations. The ruling also directed jail authorities to ensure that Khan has access to his legal counsel and family during the proceedings.
