Iran rules out second round of talks with US amid rising tensions

TEHRAN: Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said on Monday that Tehran currently has no intention of engaging in a second round of negotiations with the United States.

Addressing a press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei stressed that Iran lacks trust in Washington and will continue prioritizing its national interests. He made it clear that, under the present circumstances, further dialogue is not on the table.

The spokesperson criticized the US for what he described as a lack of seriousness in pursuing diplomacy, accusing it of adopting hostile measures and breaching the ceasefire. He maintained that Iran remains confident in its own capabilities and sees no basis for talks given current conditions.

Baghaei revealed that earlier discussions had already been held on a 10-point proposal presented in Pakistan. He also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz had remained secure prior to alleged US and Israeli actions, accusing Washington of enforcing a naval blockade and targeting an Iranian vessel.

He further alleged that the US had violated both the negotiation framework and the ceasefire on multiple occasions, calling the reported attack on an Iranian ship a breach of international law. According to him, US strikes also affected civilians and infrastructure within Iran.

Baghaei added that Iran had kept Pakistan informed about the alleged ceasefire violations from the beginning, reiterating that the US naval blockade contradicts prior understandings. He warned that unless US policies shift, prospects for progress will remain bleak.

The spokesperson concluded by accusing Washington of leveling unfounded claims against Iran and engaging in blame rather than constructive diplomacy, asserting that Tehran does not expect honesty from the US.
