Nawaz Sharif calls Key session to finalize Gilgit-Baltistan election candidates

G.BALTISTAN: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has scheduled a crucial meeting of its parliamentary board on April 20 in Murree to determine the allocation of election tickets for Gilgit-Baltistan’s upcoming 2026 polls.

Approximately 150 aspirants have applied for party tickets across 24 constituencies in the region. The parliamentary board is expected to review these applications and select the final candidates during this session.

In addition to candidate selection, discussions are likely to cover potential political alliances and the inclusion of new party members as part of the election strategy. The party has established a 23-member parliamentary board, comprising senior leaders such as Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Hamza Shehbaz, and Khawaja Saad Rafiq, among others. This body has full authority to approve candidate nominations.

The meeting, scheduled for 11 am in Murree, will be chaired by Nawaz Sharif, with all members duly notified. There are also indications that a similar parliamentary board gathering may soon be organized to address ticket allocations for Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
