ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has reported the recovery of 80 acres of state-owned land that had been unlawfully allotted to Bahria Town in Hyderabad.
According to an official statement issued on Monday, the land is situated in Deh Ganjo Takkar, within the Gulshan-i-Sarmast housing scheme, and is estimated to be worth around Rs6 billion due to its prime location.
NAB stated that Bahria Town had obtained possession of the land through an illegal allotment at a significantly reduced price of Rs383 million, which was not fully paid. The bureau further noted that the company failed to comply with the agreed terms, as the land had originally been designated for the construction of a university.
The statement added that NAB took up the issue with the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA). Following NAB’s intervention, the HDA cancelled the allotment, repossessed the land, and forfeited the partial payment made by Bahria Town.
In a related development, an accountability court last week issued perpetual arrest warrants for Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz, his son, and several others in connection with the case.
Earlier in 2025, NAB had filed a reference against Bahria Town’s owners, senior PPP figures, and government officials over allegations of illegally converting, exchanging, and transferring government land for the company’s projects in Karachi.
