TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that ongoing discussions with the United States are moving forward, crediting Pakistan for its constructive and “gracious” role in facilitating dialogue.
However, he warned Washington against getting pulled deeper into tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that military action cannot resolve what is fundamentally a political issue.
In a statement shared on X, Araghchi highlighted that recent developments in the Hormuz region demonstrate the futility of force, urging both the US and the UAE to avoid escalation driven by external influences. He added that while diplomatic progress is being made, initiatives like “Project Freedom” risk leading to further deadlock rather than solutions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has initiated efforts to ensure safe passage for oil tankers and commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz a crucial global energy route that has been largely disrupted since hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran intensified earlier this year. The conflict has already resulted in significant casualties across the region.
Separately, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone call with Araghchi, where both leaders reviewed the regional situation and ongoing diplomatic efforts. Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue, while Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to peaceful engagement. He emphasized that diplomacy remains the only effective path toward resolving conflicts and ensuring lasting regional stability.
