DHAKA: Bangladesh national cricket team secured a convincing 104-run victory over Pakistan national cricket team in the opening Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Set a target of 268 runs on the final day, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled early as Imam-ul-Haq and skipper Shan Masood were dismissed for just two runs each. Young debutant Azan Awais, who impressed with a century in the first innings, managed only 15 in the chase as Pakistan slipped to 21-3.
Although the middle order attempted to steady the innings, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and Pakistan were eventually bowled out, allowing Bangladesh to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 152-3 and declared at 240-9. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with an impressive 87, while Mominul Haque chipped in with 56 runs.
For Pakistan, Hasan Ali and Noman Ali claimed three wickets apiece, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took two.
Bangladesh had gained control of the match earlier by scoring 413 in their first innings, earning a 27-run advantage over Pakistan’s total of 386.
Pakistan’s brightest moment came through debutant Azan Awais, whose outstanding 103-run innings highlighted the visitors’ batting effort. Abdullah Fazal added 60, Mohammad Rizwan contributed 59, and Salman Ali Agha scored 58 runs.
