Nepali mountaineer sets new record by climbing mount everest for 32nd time

WEB DESK: Nepali Sherpa climber Kami Rita has broken a new record by summiting Mount Everest for the 32nd time, making him the most frequent climber of the world’s highest peak. This achievement surpasses his previous record set in 2025.

The 56-year-old Kami Rita reached the 8,849-meter-high summit alongside a team of mountaineers. The Nepalese Department of Tourism congratulated him on this historic milestone.

Kami first climbed Everest in 1994, and since then, he has ascended the mountain almost every year. He missed only three years—2014, 2015, and 2020—due to restrictions on Everest caused by various reasons, including safety concerns and environmental considerations.

According to an official statement from the Department of Tourism, Kami Rita reached the summit on the morning of May 17. Along with him, 52-year-old Sherpa woman Lhakapa also reached the peak for the 11th time, making her one of the most experienced female climbers on Everest.

To date, over 8,000 individuals have successfully climbed Mount Everest, many of whom have achieved multiple ascents. Outside of Sherpas, British climber Kenton Cool holds the record for the most Everest summits by a non-Sherpa, having reached the top 19 times.
