Saudi Arabia introduces drone-based medical delivery during Hajj

MINA: In a groundbreaking development, Saudi Arabia has approved the deployment of drone technology to deliver medicines and medical supplies during the Hajj pilgrimage, signifying a major advancement in utilizing modern innovations for pilgrim services.

According to the Saudi Gazette, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has granted the first operational license for a limited drone delivery system within the holy sites in Makkah for the 2026 Hajj season. The permit was awarded to Terra Drone Arabia and demonstrates GACA’s dedication to embracing cutting-edge solutions to enhance the experience and safety of pilgrims.

This initiative strives to improve the efficiency and speed of medical and logistical support, all while adhering to rigorous safety and quality standards. It builds on successful pilot programs conducted during last year’s Hajj and aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives and the Kingdom’s Aviation Strategy.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhaify, Imam of Masjid al-Nabawi and Amir-ul-Hajj, delivered a sermon at Masjid-e-Nimra during the Waqoof-e-Arafat, emphasizing unity among Muslims and calling for the avoidance of political slogans and divisions during Hajj.

Sheikh Al-Hudhaify highlighted that the core message of Islam is Tawheed—worship of Allah alone without partners—and urged pilgrims to remain composed, avoid overcrowding, and strictly follow official safety protocols during rituals.

Prayers were offered for Muslim unity worldwide, as well as for peace and stability across Muslim nations. He also prayed for the well-being of Saudi leadership, including King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, praising their efforts in managing the Holy Mosques and facilitating Hajj.

After the sermon, pilgrims participated in combined and shortened Zuhr and Asr prayers within their designated tents and camps. The main Hajj observance, Waqoof-e-Arafat, was conducted with deep religious sincerity as millions of pilgrims from various countries assembled on the plains of Arafat, chanting “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.”

Pakistani pilgrims, in particular, started arriving in Arafat after Isha prayers, under the supervision of appointed organizers, ready to fulfill their rites.
