LAHORE: An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Wednesday took up proceedings in the case concerning alleged irregular appointments in the Punjab Assembly, in which former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and several others are facing charges.
During the hearing, the court sought arguments on an acquittal application submitted by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha.
The proceedings were conducted by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich. Counsel for Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and his former principal secretary, Muhammad Khan Bhatti, requested exemption from personal appearance for the day.
The defense informed the court that both men were unwell and had been advised by doctors to rest. It was further stated that Bhatti was experiencing severe back pain.
After reviewing the requests and medical documents, the court approved one-day exemptions for both Parvez Elahi and Muhammad Khan Bhatti. The matter was subsequently postponed until June 17.
The anti-corruption authorities have already submitted the charge sheet in the case, and further proceedings will continue on the next hearing date.
