Sindh, Balochistan unveil people-centric budgets

WEB DESK: Today, the Sindh government introduced its budget for the upcoming fiscal year, with a total allocation of 3,562 billion rupees. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah officially presented the budget in the Sindh Assembly.

Highlighting a taxpayer-friendly approach, the Chief Minister stated that no new taxes would be levied. He also announced a 7% increase in salaries and pensions, along with the integration of the ad hoc allowances from 2022 and 2025 into the basic pay of government employees. Additionally, the minimum wage has been raised from forty thousand to forty-three thousand rupees per month.

Significant investments have been allocated to education, with 620 billion rupees designated for the sector. The government also announced plans to distribute free solar home systems to 275,000 households, with a budget of eighteen billion rupees to support this initiative.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan, the provincial budget for the next fiscal year was also unveiled in the assembly, with a total outlay of 1,089 billion rupees. During the presentation, Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani elaborated that 797 billion rupees are allocated for non-development expenses, while 206 billion rupees are reserved for development projects.

He further mentioned that 45 billion rupees will be spent on federally funded initiatives, and 40 billion rupees are allocated for foreign aid projects. The education sector alone has received over 127 billion rupees to enhance school infrastructure and programs.
