ISLAMABAD: A miscellaneous petition has been filed in the Supreme Court requesting an expedited hearing of a chamber appeal concerning objections raised by the Registrar’s Office on a plea to transfer PTI leader Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
The application, filed through lawyer Aziz Bhandari, urges the court to schedule the case for a hearing in the upcoming week. It contends that the Registrar’s Office objected to the transfer plea on the grounds that it was not filed through Imran Khan’s authorized legal representative.
The petition argues that these objections are now invalid, as Khan issued a power of attorney to Advocate-on-Record Javed Masood Tahir Bhatti, which was officially attested by the jail superintendent on May 25.
The chamber appeal challenging the Registrar’s Office objections is still pending before the court. Additionally, the petition notes that Khan was taken to PIMS on June 14 for a medical examination without prior notice to his family.
The legal team has requested that the Supreme Court include the appeal in the judicial agenda starting June 22.
Meanwhile, on June 15, Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a follow-up on his eye treatment, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The hospital released a statement confirming that Khan underwent the fifth stage of treatment for his eye condition, receiving an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.
The statement added that prior to the procedure, Khan was examined by ophthalmologists and found to be in stable condition. An optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan showed signs of improvement.
The hospital spokesperson further explained that, after obtaining informed consent and following all safety protocols, Imran Khan received the injection in the operating theatre under the supervision of specialist surgeons using microscopic guidance.
All necessary safety measures were observed throughout the procedure,” the statement concluded.
