PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has approved a relief package totaling Rs126 million to support minority families affected by acts of terrorism.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the assessment committee led by Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri, Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs. The committee reviewed 173 applications and approved financial assistance for 167 eligible individuals and families. Beneficiaries included widows, injured victims, orphaned children, unmarried women, and persons with disabilities.
Officials confirmed that all applications underwent meticulous review at both the district and departmental levels, with each case re-verified to ensure fairness and transparency. The committee also established that women qualifying for multiple categories would receive assistance only once. Seven cases of permanent disability were examined, with six approved conditionally upon submission of additional documentation.
Additionally, the government allocated Rs4 million for families affected by the Mardan Gurdwara Singh Sabha attack. Compensation will also be provided to the legal heirs of Jagan Nath and his wife. The district investigation team has been instructed to complete its report within a week to speed up the process.
Qadri emphasized that supporting terrorism victims is a collective responsibility of the state and the nation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting minority rights, ensuring religious freedom, and extending financial aid to all affected families.
