Lahore experiences heavy rain, strong winds, authorities issue safety advisory

LAHORE: Torrential rain combined with gusty winds swept through various neighborhoods in Lahore, according to reports from the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Multiple districts including Nishtar Town, Johar Town, Gulberg, Lawrence Road, Mazang, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, and Nabha Road experienced rainfall, resulting in cooler and more refreshing weather across the city.

Rainfall measurements indicate Farrukhabad received the highest amount at 18.2 millimeters, with Saggian recording 17.4 mm, Tajpura 14.6 mm, and Pani Wala Tala in the historic Walled City receiving 12.4 mm.

Lahore’s Commissioner, Nauman Yousaf, has directed teams from WASA, the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to stay vigilant and active. He emphasized the importance of personal supervision by all Assistant Commissioners to manage drainage systems, ensure that main roads and underpasses remain accessible, and keep teams from the Central Business District (CBD) and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) on alert.

The Commissioner also ordered that power outage-affected disposal stations should immediately switch to backup generators, and all pumping stations should operate smoothly. WASA’s regional officials have been tasked with continuous monitoring of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Motorway Police spokesperson reported rainfall at various points on the M-2 Motorway, specifically between Kot Momin and Thokar Niaz Baig. Rain continues to fall on the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway from the main toll plaza to Sambrial. Cloudy weather persists on the M-3 Motorway between Faizpur and Nankana.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as the wet roads have become slick. Authorities recommend reducing speed, maintaining a safe following distance, and avoiding overtaking or sudden braking on slippery surfaces.

Motorists are also advised to check that their headlights and windshield wipers are functioning properly, follow lane discipline, and always wear seat belts. In case of emergencies, contact the Motorway Police Helpline at 130 immediately.
