Kashmir martyrs remembered: President, PM, and Interior Minister honor sacrifices of 1931

ISLAMABAD: In observance of Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir, Pakistan’s top leaders paid heartfelt tribute to the 22 Kashmiris who lost their lives resisting Dogra forces’ firing in Srinagar back in 1931. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi collectively expressed their respect for the martyrs’ courage and sacrifice.

President Zardari called on the international community to actively support peaceful efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute, emphasizing the importance of adhering to United Nations resolutions. He stressed that a just and lasting peace in South Asia hinges on a peaceful resolution of the long-standing conflict.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that peace and stability in the region remain distant until the Kashmir issue is resolved amicably. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral backing for the Kashmiri people.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid special tribute to the martyrs, underscoring the significance of July 13, 1931, as a symbol of resistance against oppression. He described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and praised the bravery of the 22 martyrs who faced gunfire with dignity and resolve during their call to prayer.

Naqvi pointed out that the violence inflicted by the Dogra regime and Indian authorities are different facets of the same oppressive system. He condemned the suppression of belief, identity, and resistance in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a blatant violation of human dignity.

He reaffirmed that the cry for freedom cannot be silenced by guns, imprisonment, or curfews—this spirit of resistance will continue to inspire generations. Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, he said, is a day of renewed resolve to stand with the Kashmiri struggle for freedom.

Naqvi further emphasized Pakistan’s role as the protector and advocate for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. He urged the international community and human rights organizations to raise awareness about Indian atrocities in IIOJK and fulfill their responsibilities towards safeguarding human rights in the region.
