PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, has announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering women through free electric scooters. During a recent meeting, Afridi approved the scheme in principle, emphasizing its potential to enhance women’s independence and facilitate their daily commute.
The plan will be initially launched in Peshawar, where female students and working women will be provided with electric scooters at no cost. Authorities have been instructed to organize a transparent selection process, utilizing computerized balloting to ensure fairness and merit-based beneficiary distribution.
To ensure smooth execution, Afridi ordered the formation of dedicated committees, including a steering body, technical team, and grievance redressal group. The government has also committed to allocating full funding for the project, with plans to expand the initiative to other districts across the province in the future.
The initiative is designed to not only promote women’s mobility but also contribute positively to environmental sustainability by encouraging the use of eco-friendly transportation. Afridi highlighted that the scheme would enable women to access educational institutions and workplaces more safely and conveniently, thus supporting their economic and social empowerment.
The provincial leadership reaffirmed their commitment to investing in women’s development, confidence, and overall societal progress through targeted practical measures. The scheme is expected to play a significant role in fostering a more inclusive and progressive society in KP.
