Another petition filed in Supreme Court against 26th Constitutional Amendment

Islamabad: Another petition against the 26th Constitutional Amendment filed in the Supreme Court.

Petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Sardar Latif Khosa and Barrister Salahuddin against the 26th Constitutional Amendment on behalf of eight former presidents of the Supreme Court Bar.

Hamid Khan, Amanullah Kunrani, Abid Hasan Manto, Ali Ahmed Kurd, Akram Sheikh, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Munir A. Malik and Abid Zubairi included in petitioners.

The position taken in the petition is that the 26th Constitutional Amendment is inconsistent with the independence of the judiciary and contrary to the principle of separation of powers, the 26th Constitutional Amendment could not have been passed without the decision of the special benches.

The petition requested the Supreme Court to suspend all actions resulting from Article 26 till the final decision.
