Araqchi Likely in Islamabad Tonight as Pakistan Pushes Fresh Iran-US Ceasefire Diplomacy

ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad late Friday with a delegation as Pakistan intensifies diplomatic efforts aimed at advancing a ceasefire and reviving dialogue between Iran and the United States.

According to government sources, the visit follows separate telephonic contacts between Araqchi, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, during which the leaders reviewed regional developments, ceasefire prospects and ongoing diplomatic coordination.

Sources say preparations are under way for a possible second round of talks in Islamabad, with mediation-related discussions expected between Iranian and US representatives. Reports indicate a US logistics and security team is already present in the capital in connection with the proposed negotiation process.

The Foreign Office said Ishaq Dar and Araqchi exchanged views on efforts to sustain diplomatic engagement and reduce tensions, with both sides stressing the need for continued dialogue to promote regional peace and stability. The Iranian foreign minister reportedly acknowledged Pakistan’s facilitation role and agreed to remain in close contact.

The latest engagement comes as Islamabad maintains active diplomacy with multiple capitals in support of de-escalation efforts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir have remained engaged with regional and international stakeholders as part of those efforts.

Officials said discussions focused on the fragile ceasefire environment, broader security dynamics and coordination to prevent further escalation. Pakistan has continued outreach aimed at keeping diplomatic channels open amid persistent geopolitical uncertainty.

The developments also follow Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran, where he held meetings with Iran’s political and military leadership and reiterated Pakistan’s support for a negotiated settlement and regional stability.

Earlier rounds of indirect diplomacy in Islamabad had brought senior Iranian officials for talks with US interlocutors, while Pakistan has also stepped up engagement with key regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye, to support the peace process.
