ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar on Sunday criticized the budget, stating it offers no relief to the common people who are burdened by rising prices.
During the National Assembly debate on the budget, he highlighted the lack of clear measures to reduce costs of gas, electricity, and medicines. Gohar also condemned the hefty salary increases—200% for MNAs and 180% for ministers—as unjustified, suggesting leaders should live like ordinary citizens to earn respect and trust.
He accused the government of failing to implement essential economic reforms and lacking a viable plan to manage increasing debt. Gohar pointed out that the depreciation of the rupee and dollar flight are direct consequences of government policies, which also leave the country without sufficient resources for strategic needs.
Calling for greater transparency, he emphasized the importance of sharing accurate data with the public and reducing government expenditures. He also urged reforms in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for better resource distribution and stressed the need for honest decision-making in service of the people.
