Pakistan builds oil reserves amid middle east tensions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has intensified measures to safeguard its fuel supply system in response to rising instability in the Middle East, with authorities securing petroleum reserves for June after ensuring adequate stocks for May.

Official documents reveal that the country is maintaining petroleum reserves capable of covering nearly one and a half to two months of demand in an effort to prevent any potential fuel shortages.

According to the documents, Pakistan has arranged 446 metric tons of crude oil for June. Around 296 metric tons will be imported, while the remaining 150 metric tons will be supplied from domestic oil fields.

The government has also secured 201 metric tons of diesel through local refineries, a quantity officials say is sufficient for approximately nine days. Additionally, 98 metric tons of petrol have been arranged from local sources.

Authorities have further ensured the availability of 18 metric tons of jet fuel, enough to meet demand for around 10 days, along with JP-8 fuel reserves sufficient for 12 days. About 18 metric tons of LPG has also been secured for the month.

Officials stated that petroleum supplies are being arranged in advance to maintain uninterrupted availability across the country, while additional stocks will continue to be procured as needed.

Most of the currently available reserves are expected to come from domestic production, though imports may also be sourced from countries such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the United States, and several African nations if required.

A senior official from the Petroleum Division said the government is placing greater emphasis on boosting output from local refineries in an effort to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
