GENEVA: A Pakistani delegation headed by Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch has arrived in Switzerland ahead of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, with the formal ceremony scheduled for Friday.
The delegation reached the venue to oversee preparations for the high-level event, which Pakistan is hosting. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to travel to Switzerland later on Thursday to lead the country’s representation at the ceremony.
Officials said the American delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran will be represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that the agreement includes Iran’s decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a commitment by the United States to lift its naval blockade. He described the understanding as a significant move towards easing regional tensions and promoting stability.
In addition to the signing ceremony, technical-level talks between US and Iranian officials are scheduled to begin on Friday in Switzerland. The discussions will focus on implementing the terms of the agreement and are expected to lay the groundwork for wider negotiations in the weeks ahead.
