PESHAWAR: PHC bar Council requested to relax english proficiency standards after 139 candidates fail screening exam.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has approached the Peshawar High Court with a request to ease the English language proficiency requirements for the Additional Sessions Judge screening test, after 139 out of 598 candidates failed the English section.
In a letter addressed to the court, the Bar Council contended that stringent language requirements could hinder the qualification of capable candidates. They advocated for a relaxation of these standards to broaden the pool of skilled individuals eligible for consideration in the role.
This request has ignited a vibrant debate regarding the relative importance of language proficiency compared to other competencies in judicial appointments.
Advocates for prioritizing language skills argue that effective communication is essential for interpreting the law, understanding case nuances, and ensuring fair trials. They contend that judges must be adept in the language of the court to convey complex legal concepts clearly and to comprehend the perspectives of all parties involved.
