QUETTA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee under the National Action Plan (NAP) in Quetta on Thursday to evaluate the security and law enforcement situation across Balochistan.
During his one-day visit to Quetta, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, along with senior civil and military officials.
At the gathering, PM Shehbaz presided over discussions focused on the current security landscape, with officials providing briefings on law and order challenges as well as ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
The meeting was attended by military leaders, including Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, as well as provincial authorities, law enforcement heads, and senior civilian officials. Key federal ministers, including Ahad Khan Cheema (Economic Affairs), Attaullah Tarar (Information and Broadcasting), and Adviser Rana Sanaullah (Political and Public Affairs), also participated.
The Prime Minister’s visit comes at a time of heightened terrorist activity in Balochistan, with recent attacks targeting both security personnel and civilians.
Just a day prior, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), reported that three separate assaults by terrorist groups Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and Fitna Al-Hindustan (FAH) resulted in the martyrdom of 42 individuals, including 11 soldiers, 27 police officers, and four civilians.
Lt. Gen. Chaudhry added that security forces responded with intelligence-based operations, killing 54 terrorists. He also accused India of orchestrating these attacks, emphasizing that Pakistani forces had reacted swiftly and decisively to the threats.
