ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a cautionary notice urging citizens to promptly deactivate any mobile SIM cards registered in their name that are being used by someone else. The authority warned that such practices could pose serious legal and security threats.
In a statement released on Thursday, a PTA spokesperson explained that allowing another individual to operate a SIM registered under your identity is a breach of the law. The PTA stressed that if a SIM under a person’s name is involved in illegal activities, the registered owner may be held accountable.
The authority recommended that users regularly check the number of SIMs linked to their CNIC to prevent misuse. This can be done by visiting the official SIM verification portal or by sending their CNIC number (without dashes) to 668 for registration details.
Furthermore, PTA urged the public to immediately report and block any unfamiliar, unnecessary, or suspicious SIM cards associated with their identity to prevent potential exploitation.
The authority also emphasized that consumers should only purchase new SIM cards from authorized outlets or customer service centers.
For more information or guidance, citizens are advised to visit the PTA’s official website.
