Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that his three generations were working for the development of Karachi.
The Member of National Assembly (NA) and the party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was addressing the inauguration ceremony of first segment of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto expressway today.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said how much President Zardari had given funds to Karachi that no one other gave it.
He said that the federation treats Sindh with harsh treatment. He went on to say that with several excuses Sindh is deprived of funds
He said that he said to Mayor Karachi and local bodies minister to work first on Water project in Karachi.
While he said that the CM Sindh ensured the satisfaction of the business community and investors will follow suit.
Before inauguration of the expressway, the PPP Chairman visited newly constructed Malir Expressway.
Bilawal himself drove his vehicle from Qayoomabad to Shah Faisal Colony phase one and also paid toll tax at Shah Faisal Interchange three.
Before ceremony he unveiled the inaugural board of the first segment of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway.
The PPP Chairman were accompanied with Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Provincial Minister for local bodies Saeed Ghani, Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, ex-chief minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Qasim Naveed Qamar.
First segment links Korangi causeway to Shah Faisal colony which covers a distance of 9.1 km while it represents a significant milestone in Karachi’s infrastructure development, promising improved connectivity and reduced traffic congestion.
On the other hand, tax of Rs 100 to be charged from small cars while heavy vehicles will pay Rs 200.
Motorcycles and Rickshaws are completely banned on the Malir Expressway. It is likely that Quaidabad intersection will complete within two months hiatus
The Malir Expressway (MEW) is the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in Sindh. It features a three-lane dual-carriageway with modern, access-controlled infrastructure.
Spanning approximately 40 km, the expressway connects Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway (Superhighway) near Kathore, offering a critical link for commuters and significantly reducing travel time.
Modern Features and Connectivity:
The expressway will include dedicated interchanges, providing seamless access to key residential and commercial areas along the route. The first segment will feature a ramp to facilitate immediate traffic flow and will be complemented by a connecting flyover from Korangi, which is expected to be completed within two months.
The construction of the Jam Sadiq Interchange and road rehabilitation projects at the EBM and Shah Faisal Interchanges are progressing steadily. Encroachments at the Quaidabad Interchange have been cleared, and construction is ongoing to enhance connectivity.
Toll Tax and Security Measures:
A Toll Plaza will manage traffic flow, charging Rs 100 for cars and jeeps, and Rs 200 for heavy vehicles. Security measures will include patrols by traffic police, fire brigades, and Rescue 1122 ambulances.
The CM directed law enforcement agencies to deploy district and traffic police at key entry and exit points, including the Jam Sadiq, EBM, and Shah Faisal Interchanges.
The traffic police will patrol both sides of the expressway continuously in vehicles. Dedicated traffic police will be present on the expressway to ensure proper traffic flow.
Traffic Rules & Restrictions:
To ensure smooth operations, the CM has declared the stretch from the Shah Faisal Interchange to the Shah Faisal Colony Bridge as a no-parking zone.
Only commercial vehicles, cars, jeeps, and buses will be permitted on the expressway, while motorcycles and rickshaws are prohibited.
The Malir Expressway is poised to transform Karachi’s transportation landscape, providing swift access to residential developments and commercial hubs. Once fully operational, it is expected to alleviate congestion and boost economic activity throughout the city.
