KP CM supports Kalabagh-Like major national project, emphasizes unity

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized that Pakistan’s progress cannot be hindered by provincial divisions and called for a unified approach to undertake large-scale projects like the Kalabagh Dam, which serve the national interest.

Addressing the media, Gandapur stressed that all concerns and reservations must be addressed to move forward with such projects. “Everyone’s satisfaction is essential, and these projects should benefit our children, future generations, and Pakistan as a whole,” he said, underscoring the importance of prioritizing national welfare.

The CM highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by heavy rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods in KP, stating that relief and rescue efforts are underway using available resources. He expressed solidarity with Punjab, noting that the province is also facing hardships, and assured that KP is ready to assist Punjab whenever needed.

On political developments, Gandapur commented on Imran Khan’s release, outlining two potential paths forward. The first involves upholding the constitution and the rule of law, which he believes would lead to Khan’s release and the collapse of false cases. The second, he said, would involve compromises with the establishment—an option he considers unlikely. Gandapur affirmed that Khan remains committed to his principles and is enduring imprisonment for the future of Pakistan.

He also announced that KP has reached out to Afghan authorities, offering support to communities affected by Monday’s 6-magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan, which resulted in over 800 fatalities. Gandapur pledged that rescue teams, medical aid, relief supplies, and rehabilitation efforts would be mobilized, reaffirming KP’s solidarity with the Afghan people during this crisis.

Regarding Afghan refugees, Gandapur opposed forced repatriation, urging the federal government to allow at least six months for refugees to organize their return and livelihoods. He emphasized that KP has hosted Afghan refugees for four decades and that their dignified repatriation should be prioritized. He assured that no harassment or raids are being carried out against refugees in KP and that efforts are ongoing to facilitate their return with dignity.
