LAHORE: Punjab police have apprehended 153 individuals and filed 141 cases across the province within the last 24 hours under the Anti-Kite Flying Act, according to a statement by a police spokesperson on Thursday.
The arrests are part of a sustained effort to crack down on the illegal production, sale, and flying of kites, which authorities have identified as a significant risk to public safety.
During these operations, law enforcement confiscated 22,753 banned kites and 570 reels of kite string.
In Lahore, 81 individuals were taken into custody for their involvement in the illegal kite trade, with authorities seizing 2,807 kites in the process.
The spokesperson further revealed that a total of 4,171 suspects have been arrested this year for participating in the illegal kite industry across Punjab. Since the year began, more than 350,000 kites and 7,985 reels of metallic string have been recovered from suspects.
Police emphasized that actions against kite flyers, manufacturers, and sellers will persist without bias. The ongoing crackdown aims to fully eradicate this practice in order to safeguard human lives.
