RAWALPINDI: A specialised team of five doctors carried out a detailed eye examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail under heightened security arrangements, according to jail sources.

Officials said the medical team arrived at the prison equipped with diagnostic instruments and necessary medicines. An ambulance fitted with eye examination equipment was also stationed inside the jail premises during the visit. The doctors are expected to finalise their findings in a comprehensive report soon.

The examination was conducted following directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which granted Khan access to specialist medical care. His counsel, Salman Safdar, had recently met him in prison and subsequently submitted a report before a bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, raising concerns about his client’s health and seeking appropriate medical treatment.

Sources revealed that an initial medical report has already been forwarded to the Punjab Home Department. The document reportedly contains a detailed record of Khan’s vital signs, including blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol readings, and other health indicators. A separate assessment focusing specifically on his eye condition has also been dispatched from Rawalpindi.

In addition, consultation notes and details of the medical professionals involved in his care have been submitted to authorities. Jail officials maintain that on-duty doctors examine him three times daily, with routine documentation of his medical status being preserved.

The Punjab Home Department had earlier requested a thorough medical report from Adiala Jail authorities to assess his condition.

CRVO Diagnosis Raises Concerns

The latest development follows reports that Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye disorder typically associated with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Khan has previously stated that he has lost approximately 85% of vision in his right eye due to the condition.

Since the disclosure of his diagnosis, PTI leaders and family members have voiced alarm over his health, calling for his transfer to a hospital for advanced treatment. While the federal government insists that adequate medical facilities are being provided within the prison, opposition lawmakers have intensified their protest campaign.

Members of PTI and the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) have staged a sit-in at Parliament House since March 13, demanding Khan’s relocation to a hospital. The demonstration, now entering its third day, is being held at multiple locations including Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, and the Parliament Lodges.

Key opposition figures participating in the protest include National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
