US Vice President JD Vance lands in Islamabad for crucial Iran talks

ISLAMABAD: A high-level US delegation led by JD Vance has arrived in Islamabad to participate in critical negotiations with Iran, aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict during a fragile two-week ceasefire.

The delegation arrived aboard a Air Force Two flight on Saturday, accompanied by additional aircraft carrying officials and media personnel. All flights landed at the Nur Khan Airbase, located near the federal capital.

Among the prominent members of the US team are special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump.

On the Iranian side, the delegation is headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, with key figures including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior official Ali Bagheri Kani already in Islamabad.

Hosted by Pakistan, the negotiations dubbed the “Islamabad Talks” are expected to unfold through both direct and indirect channels at a secure, undisclosed location in the capital. Officials indicate the discussions could extend over several days given the complexity of the issues involved.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Islamabad in the talks, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described as decisive in efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.

Both the US and Iranian delegations are also scheduled to hold separate meetings with the Pakistani premier as part of the diplomatic engagement.

This marks the first visit by a US vice president to Pakistan since 2011, underscoring the significance Washington attaches to these negotiations at a critical moment for regional stability.
