ISLAMABAD: Security has been significantly tightened across Islamabad as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in the capital for potential diplomatic discussions with the United States.
Authorities have deployed over 18,000 police personnel at key locations throughout the city to ensure law and order during the high-profile visit.
The Red Zone has been sealed off from Koral onward, with multiple security checkpoints established on major access routes. Additional forces, including police and Rangers, have been stationed at sensitive points, intersections, and outside important buildings such as the Serena Hotel.
Traffic authorities have also warned of intermittent road closures, particularly along Srinagar Highway, depending on security requirements. Chief Traffic Officer Mohammad Sarfraz Virk stated that movement may be restricted at various times to manage security arrangements effectively.
Meanwhile, the district administration has already imposed a ban on heavy vehicle entry into Islamabad as part of precautionary measures.
The heightened security comes in the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic activity, following the first round of direct Iran–US talks reportedly held earlier this month in Islamabad.
