Somalia commits to assisting Pakistan in rescue of hijacked tanker crew

Sources reveal that Somalia has formally provided a written guarantee to support the rescue operations for the hostages. Pakistan raised this concern directly with Somali authorities after pirates seized eleven Pakistani nationals from the vessel.

A distressing video has emerged showing the crew members in overcrowded and poor conditions aboard the vessel. Reports indicate that approximately twelve individuals, including 11 Pakistanis some residents of Karachi are being kept in a small compartment, highlighting the harsh environment faced by the hostages and raising alarm among their families.

The tanker was captured by armed pirates off the Somali coast on April 21. Security officials stated that six gunmen seized the ship about 30 nautical miles from the shore. The vessel was transporting 17 crew members in total, including an Indonesian captain and 11 Pakistanis.

Family members of the abducted crew have expressed grave concern. Among those onboard is Second Engineer Syed Hussain, who had set sail from Karachi in January. His relatives report that they have had no communication with him since the vessel was hijacked.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has called for a comprehensive report on the incident and instructed authorities to maintain constant contact and closely monitor the situation.

Sources indicate ongoing efforts are being made in coordination with the Somali government to facilitate the release of the Pakistani crew. The families of the hostages have appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, urging immediate action for the safe return of their loved ones.
