LAHORE: A Lahore police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Ghafir Naveed, has been booked at Shadman Police Station for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and hitting a woman’s car on Jail Road.
Following the incident, the police official, who is posted to the Judicial Wing, paid Rs500,000 to the woman as compensation for the damage to her vehicle after both parties reached a mutual settlement.
Although the dispute between the two parties has been resolved by mutual consent, the departmental inquiry against the ASI will continue.
SSP Operations Lahore is overseeing the investigation into the incident.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that wearing a police uniform did not place anyone above the law. He stressed that police personnel were equally bound to obey the law, like every other citizen.
He further stated that if the allegations against the ASI were substantiated, appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
