22nd Death Anniversary Of Zameer Jafri Being Observed Today

The 22nd death anniversary of eminent poet, writer, comedian and broadcaster Syed Zamir Jafri is being observed on Wednesday.

Born in Jhelum in 1916, he wrote more than 78 books in Urdu and Punjabi.

He also translated monumental Punjabi classic the “Saif-Ul-Malook” by Mian Muhammad Bakhsh.

Famous for his humour in Urdu and known as Baba-e-Zarafat (father of humor), Syed Zameer Jafri is distinct among other poets in many respects and one was that he never ridiculed others.

He was a legend poet who with his unique poetic diction and ideas ruled urdu literature for over 60 years. He was a learned person and trend setter using all his abilities with firm commitment which paved the way for humorous poetry in tandem with serious poetry.

A true patriot who very effectively made his pen a source of preaching message of peace and love for the man kind. His writings are a valuable asset of urdu literature. A poet of excellence who made his mark in the field of urdu literature with his wit and humour. He has about 78 published books of poetry and prose representing a varied range of creative works.

His satire was always directed against himself. He has written many books. “Zameeryiat” is full collection of his poetry. He has a wide readership across the globe. He died on May 12, 1999.
