ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced that it will no longer impose the Rs35 PTV fee on electricity bills, officials revealed on Saturday.
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to formally confirm this decision shortly. Currently, there are around 40 million electricity consumers nationwide, from whom approximately 1.5 billion rupees are collected monthly through the PTV fee, totaling nearly 16 billion rupees annually.
This exemption will benefit all categories of consumers—residential, commercial, and others—by reducing their electricity expenses.Furthermore, officials noted that this move aims to ease the financial strain on consumers and bring substantial relief to electricity bills. The current government has taken significant steps to reduce power outages by implementing essential reforms in the energy sector. Consumers are now hopeful for considerable reductions in power tariffs, similar to the relief experienced during power shutdowns.
