U.S. launches new air defense coordination unit at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar

DOHA: In a move to bolster regional security, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), in collaboration with allied nations, has inaugurated a new coordination facility at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar dedicated to air and missile defense.

This new entity, named the Middle East Air Defense – Combined Defense Operations Cell (MEAD-CDOC), is situated within the existing Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC). It involves personnel from the U.S. and various regional partners working together to enhance defense cooperation.

CENTCOM issued a statement noting that the current Combined Air Operations Center in Qatar has been operational for two decades and currently involves representatives from 17 different countries.

The purpose of establishing this new cell is to further strengthen collaboration among regional states in defending against air and missile threats. It will also serve as a platform for sharing intelligence and issuing early warning alerts related to potential risks.

This development reflects ongoing efforts to improve regional defense mechanisms and ensure rapid response capabilities to emerging security challenges.
