RIYADH: The lunar crescent for the month of Dhu al-Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Based on reports from Gulf media outlets, the initial day of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH is expected to fall on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The key event of Hajj, the Day of Arafah, is scheduled for May 26, while Eid al-Adha is anticipated to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The Saudi Supreme Court had earlier issued a call for residents to observe the moon tonight. The court emphasized that anyone who spots the moon, whether with binoculars or unaided vision, should submit their testimony to the nearest court.
In parallel, Turkey has also announced that the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah will be on Monday, May 18, 2026, with Eid al-Adha falling on May 27. This decision aligns with Turkey’s established Islamic calendar.
