WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Iran has delayed negotiations over the ongoing Middle East conflict and implied that Tehran will now face repercussions.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump claimed that the Iranian military has been “completely defeated” and criticized Iran for not reaching an agreement sooner. “The Middle East’s aggressor is DONE!!! They hesitated for too long to strike a deal that could have been beneficial for them, now they will face the consequences!!!” he wrote.
This statement contrasted sharply with his remarks made to reporters the previous day, where he suggested that negotiations aimed at ending the conflict were nearing their conclusion and could be finalized within “two or three days.”
Earlier on Tuesday night, US military forces announced they had launched strikes against Iranian targets in response to the downing of an American helicopter earlier in the week. Iranian media reported explosions along its southern coastline, indicating recent clashes.
The US Central Command later confirmed that the US Air Force and Navy targeted Iranian command, control, defense, and surveillance facilities. Iran, for its part, claimed to have launched attacks on American military installations in Jordan and Bahrain on Wednesday.
