Court issues summons to Fazlur Rehman over remarks criticizing national security agencies

GUJRANWALA: A local judicial authority has officially summoned Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), to appear before the court on July 28 in relation to a petition questioning his recent comments targeting Pakistan’s security institutions.

The summons was issued by an additional sessions judge following a petition filed by prominent lawyer Manzoor Qadir. The petition alleges that Fazlur Rehman made provocative statements against the country’s vital security agencies. The petitioner has urged the court to initiate appropriate legal proceedings against him.

The petition was submitted the day prior, prompting the court to issue notices and set the hearing date for July 28.

Meanwhile, members of the ruling PML-N have condemned Fazlur Rehman’s remarks about the security forces. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif responded via social media platform X, expressing his disappointment and describing Fazl’s comments as “unfortunate.” Asif emphasized that a veteran politician like Fazlur Rehman should exercise greater responsibility in his speech.

Similarly, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also appeared to criticize the JUI-F chief’s recent speech in a post on X, without directly naming Fazlur Rehman. Tarar paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and their families, highlighting the nation’s gratitude to the martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan.
