LOWER SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Prominent religious scholar and social figure Mufti Juna Mir was killed in an explosion at Rustam Bazaar in Lower South Waziristan on Monday, police said.
According to DSP Asghar Ali Shah, unidentified attackers had planted explosive material on the ground floor of a building in Rustam Bazaar, which detonated when Mufti Juna Mir was at the scene.
Police said the blast specifically targeted Mufti Juna Mir. Law enforcement officials have collected evidence from the site and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack.
Sources said Mufti Juna Mir had been actively involved in efforts to promote peace and restore law and order in the region. He was also a regular participant and speaker at national peace jirgas aimed at fostering reconciliation and stability.
