ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a comprehensive assessment of the performance of all federal ministries and divisions, a move that could lead to changes in the federal cabinet following recent remarks by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi that triggered debate over the government’s performance.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister’s Office has directed every ministry and division to submit detailed reports outlining their achievements, reforms and major initiatives from February 2024 to date.
The reports must highlight progress made against key objectives, governance improvements, public service delivery, and policy implementation. Ministries have also been instructed to provide measurable results, completed projects with timelines, and evidence supporting every claim.
The review will cover ministries responsible for economic and financial affairs, law and internal security, administrative functions, as well as social sectors including health and education.
In addition to completed work, ministries must explain delays in ongoing projects, identify implementation challenges, and outline corrective actions. Details of administrative reforms, cost-cutting measures and efforts to improve institutional efficiency have also been sought.
The PM Office has made documentary proof mandatory for all submissions, warning that incomplete or unverified reports will not be considered. The evaluation will further examine development spending, public sector project outcomes, progress on CPEC-related initiatives, the Annual Development Programme (ADP), economic policy implementation, statistical reforms, public-private partnerships, and special initiatives overseen by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sources said the findings of the review are expected to guide future decisions on governance reforms and could influence a reshuffle of the federal cabinet aimed at improving government performance.
