Karachi Rains: Exams scheduled for September 11 postponed

KARACHI: The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has announced the postponement of examinations scheduled for Thursday, September 11, due to the ongoing heavy rains and adverse weather conditions in Karachi.

In response to the severe rainfall and resulting disruptions to road infrastructure, JSMU has shifted all classes to an online format. The university’s administration has also confirmed that the Work From Home (WFH) policy will remain in place for the time being, in light of the weather forecast, said Registrar Dr. Azam Khan.

The postponed exams will be rescheduled, with new dates to be announced shortly. JSMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Amjad Siraaj Memon, emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains the university’s top priority.

“Online teaching will continue seamlessly, and the attendance of essential personnel will be maintained to ensure smooth operations,” he stated.

Over the past two days, persistent rainfall has caused widespread flooding across Karachi, inundating low-lying areas and raising water levels in the Malir and Lyari rivers.

Intermittent showers, varying from light to heavy, have inundated major roads and neighborhoods, severely disrupting daily life in the city.

In anticipation of the ongoing weather, the Sindh government ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including schools, across Karachi Division on Wednesday.

A notification issued by the Karachi Commissioner’s Office confirmed that all public and private schools, colleges, and other educational facilities will remain closed until further notice.

The decision aligns with a weather advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which predicts continued widespread rainfall, strong winds, and thundershowers across Karachi.
